The 2017 American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Convention April 22-25 in New Orleans is where the nation’s community college leaders will come together to network and hear from colleagues and stakeholders, including foundations, government officials and business and industry. Below, AACC board member and Prince George’s Community College President Charlene Dukes recalls her experience at last year’s convention.
Charlene Dukes, president of Prince George’s Community College in Maryland, has been coming to the annual AACC convention for more than 15 years. But last year, when she served as the chair of the AACC board of directors, is the one that stands out the most for her.
The opportunity to personally welcome community college professionals to the 2016 Chicago convention as the board chair was a unique experience. Dukes relied on her experiences from previous conventions to highlight the best parts of the event — and there are many.
“The spotlights, sessions and workshop presentations give us the opportunity to learn, reinforce or reaffirm what we are doing to serve our various communities. The networking is invaluable to how we stay connected throughout the years,” Dukes said.
