The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) is getting pushback from the higher education sector and other organizations on its proposed changes to overtime rules. The American Association of Community Colleges last week filed its opposition to the proposal.
DOL in August released its proposed increase in the salary level below which employees may not be considered “exempt” under the Fair Labor Standards Act, thus setting a new minimum compensation level for “white collar” employees who are not paid on an hourly basis. The change would not affect faculty, but it would impact executive, administrative and professional personnel.
