New CEOs

Bethany H. Flora will take over as president of Northeast State Community College in Tennessee on Jan. 2. Flora is currently associate director of the Center for Community College Leadership at East Tennessee State University, where she also serves as associate professor of postsecondary leadership in the university’s Clemmer College of Education.

L. Eugene “Gene” Smith, Jr., will be the next president of Brunswick Community College in North Carolina, effective Jan. 2. He is currently vice president of academic and student services at Wayne Community College (North Carolina), where he has worked for 25 years as an instructor and administrator.

CEOs on the move

Gregory Anderson will become the 12th president of Riverside City College in California as of Jan. 1. He most recently served as president at Saddleback College and interim vice president of instruction at Mt. San Antonio College (California). His leadership positions include vice president of planning, research and institutional effectiveness and vice president of instruction in the San Mateo County Community College District and dean of learning resources.

Interim president

Brian W. Caputo will serve as interim president of College of DuPage in Illinois, as of Jan. 1. He is currently vice president of administration and CFO at the college.

Kudos

Joe May, chancellor of the Dallas County Community College District in Texas, was honored recently by the U.S. India Chamber of Commerce of Dallas-Fort Worth for his outstanding leadership in education. May and others – including U.S. Sen. John Cornyn – were recognized during the chamber’s annual awards banquet in November.

Appointments

Marc Battista will serve as associate vice president for workforce education/dean of business and career programs at Oakton Community College (Illinois), effective Jan. 7. He is currently dean of sustainability, business and career technologies at Elgin Community College in Illinois.

Saovra “Sy” Ear will serve as interim vice president of student services at Highline College (Washington), effective Nov. 26. Currently, he oversees enrollment and entry services at Edmonds Community College (Washington).
